How to Send High Value and Niche Items via Courier
Sending high value, niche or fragile items is all a part of the service here at EasyCargo. Our parcel delivery comparison site ensures you have access to the best value and the best service, whatever it is you’re sending locally, nationally or internationally.
We work closely with the most reputable couriers – including Hermes, DPD, TNT, UPS, FedEx, DHL and TG Express – to ensure goods, no matter how valuable or precious, make it safely to their destinations. As a result, we provide a plethora of secure delivery services to guarantee maximum protection.
Here we take a closer look at the sending of high value and niche items so you can ship via an EasyCargo courier with complete confidence.
I have a high value item to send, what’s next?
Visiting our quick quote tool is generally the first port of call for all EasyCargo customers. By inputting just a few details – namely your collection address, delivery address, and parcel weight and size – you can reveal the most competitive courier quotes for your unique requirements.
We do recommend that those with high value items to send visit our Prohibited Items list to ensure they’re in the right place before they book their delivery with us. Each of our couriers has their own list of prohibited goods, with some items strictly prohibited from courier collection and delivery. Others may be carried on a ‘no-compensation basis’ which means these can be transported at your own risk and will not be compensated for should they get lost or damaged.
Prohibited items include but are not limited to animals or organisms; perishable goods; biological samples; compressed air and empty canisters; drugs, medication and prescriptions; tobacco or tobacco products; hazardous, toxic or poisonous goods; illegal goods; medical equipment; money or currency; radioactive materials; and weapons.
The list of prohibited items provided by us and our couriers may also be influenced by the parcel’s destination, with some items restricted for international delivery only.
My high value item isn’t prohibited, can I book delivery?
In short, yes. If your high value item is not prohibited, then you can use our quick quote tool as usual to find the best courier quotes for your delivery destination and parcel size.
At EasyCargo, we offer several features to ensure your high value item is safe and secure throughout its journey. All our deliveries are fully insured with free parcel protection up to the value of £50 included in our courier quotes as standard. If your high value item is worth more than this, you should consider adding additional transit insurance to your order. Transit insurance is available for a small fee.
All EasyCargo deliveries are also fully trackable, meaning you can follow the progress of your parcel from start to finish. Our signature on delivery add-on is another great option for customers looking to up the security of their high value parcel delivery.
What about niche items?
Selected niche items can be sent via our parcel delivery comparison site. Again it’s advisable that you check our list of prohibited items before booking a collection and delivery with us.
Niche items include bikes, books, car parts (restrictions apply with some couriers – please see our prohibited items list), clothing, fishing rods, furniture, golf clubs, guitars, jewellery, mattresses, mobile phones, pushchairs and buggies, rugs, and wheels and tyres.
These goods are classed as niche due to their size, weight, bulkiness, battery use, value or fragility. Items that are particularly long, such as fishing rods, pushchairs, buggies, rugs and golf clubs, may not be suitable for sending via some of our couriers. As we work with a long list of reliable couriers however, we provide a range of delivery services to ensure longer, heavier, larger or more fragile items can be catered for affordably.
Restrictions apply to some niche items, such as wheels and tyres. These cannot be delivered internationally but can be delivered within the UK providing the tyres are not attached to the wheels.
Measuring and weighing your item accurately is vital. With the right measurements and weight, we can provide the most precise courier quote and service for your needs. Find more advice on how to weigh and measure parcels.
Are food and drink classed as niche items?
The sending of perishable goods is restricted in many countries, but what about gifts of alcohol and chocolate?
Whilst chocolate is a great gift to bestow on long distance friends and relatives, and can be sent via courier, due to its melting point (which is lower than body temperature) they’re not the best item to send via post!
Sending alcohol carries some restrictions, with selected couriers strictly prohibiting its delivery in the UK and overseas. Some logistics companies allow the domestic delivery of alcohol providing it’s not over 24% ABV, more than 1 litre in volume, or packaged in a glass container. Be sure to check your recommended courier’s prohibited items lists before booking.
